A Family Of 5…

Day 3 at home.

All 5 of us are still alive so we’re not doing too bad.

I feel and look like I’ve been dragged through about 70 hedges backwards and upside down but getting there.

Lost my prescription when I got home so took a few phone calls and a fax from the hospital to the local chemist but I’m back up and running in the drugs department.

The kids reluctantly went back to school yesterday after 7 days off being orphaned out to relatives while I was imprisoned. I was fairly impressed that we managed to get lunches made and get them sorted and out the door on time after a bit of an unsettled night. Awards should be given to parents really for getting basic tasks done with a newborn.

Our oven and grill broke this week. Of course they did. So Daddy went off and bought a new one yesterday after he collected the kids from school.

The older ones fed themselves crackers until we eventually gave them an oven pizza at 7pm and then let them play the playstation for 2 hours out of guilt.

We had a more settled night last night and both managed some sleep.

The house looks like it’s been broken into and trashed.

There is washing everywhere.

Tea.

Enjoy these precious days. The kids will survive, the house will recover. Welcome visitors on condition that in return for the joy they’ll get from seeing your newborn they must do a little job. Hang up a wash or fold some stuff from the dryer. Or chop some veg or bring a dinner . Also the best tip I got (I had 5 kids under 7) was just try keep the kitchen and bathroom reasonably ok and forget everything else It’ll all get back together again but your little one won’t be a newborn for long. Congratulations:)

Sounds absolutely normal to me. A few more weeks and it’ll all start to make sense. In the meantime no guilt! Congratulations on the new arrival, and the new oven! Our washing machine broke the week I came home with Baby 3, it always bloody happens! Stay in the cocoon as long as you can, the real world can wait!

Oh congrats to you! God, it’s all mental at the start, isn’t it? And then the bloody oven! Gah! Hope you’re resting up and enjoying the snuggles! 🙂
