Netflix – Gilmore Girls, House Of Cards & The Siege Of Jadotville…

Last week my Dad was up staying overnight with us and he mentioned that he’d heard The Siege Of Jadotville was really good and that he was going to figure out how to “download it.”

Like super girl in a cape – okay, like a daughter with a remote and a Netflix account – I said “Sure I can stick it on now if you want on Netflix”

So we sat down and watched The Siege Of Jadotville and I have to say, it was fantastic. It was one of those things I had said “I must watch that” but never got around to it, so I was glad my Dad suggested it. It was well worth a watch.

Based on the Siege in 1961, the United Nations intervened in the Katanga conflict in Congo, Central Africa. 155 lightly armed Irish UN troops were sent over to the mining town to assist in protecting civilians, but locals didn’t take kindly to it and a battle quickly ensued. The Irish were heavily outnumbered and they were pretty much left abandoned by the UN to battle it out against an army of 3,000 – 5,000 men. The battle lasted 5 days.

I won’t tell the story too much, but I’ll say I came away from it feeling very patriotic and proud to be Irish. It was very moving and brilliantly done. Have a look at the trailer here:

We’re still watching House Of Cards. We’re about 7 episodes into Season 3. We’ve slowed down a bit on it over the last few weeks with both of us just being busy, and have a bit of catching up to do. Season 3 maybe isn’t holding my attention as much as the first two did, but it’s still a really good show and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next..

House Of Cards Netflix Original

Now, Gilmore Girls:  A Year In The Life. Did you watch?? What did you think??

I loved it! Loved it, loved it, loved it. I can never get enough of that show and I was delighted the episodes were so long. I loved seeing all the original characters re-introduced as it went on. I was gripped on the fourth / last episode. I didn’t want it to end and I wondered how they would leave it.

So it was a bit of a shock. Did anyone else shout “What the f*ck???” at the telly? No? Just me? Did you see it coming?? From comments I’ve read a lot of people knew it was coming. I hadn’t a breeze! Part of me wonders has it been left open to more episodes? Or is it better left unknown… Here’s the trailer if you are one of the 7 people left who hasn’t seen it.. 😉

Let me know what you thought of it, and anything else your watching. 🙂

Note: I was given a free Netflix subscription in exchange for posts on what we’re watching. All views are my own.

Unfortunately he died 24 years ago, but it has been amazing for my family to see this film! We are very proud of him!
