Sibling Rivalry..

Ugh. They can be playing happily together one minute, the best of friends, and shouting their heads off and giving each other a smack two seconds later. I’ve learned to always buy two of everything.. and yet they can still manage to argue over them. The eldest is more of a softy. Knows what he wants but crumbles into a ball of tears when things turn ugly. The youngest will take you down. Loud as can be and not afraid to give a smack. I wish I could take a bit of each of their personalities and even them out a bit! (Weird. .) The eldest most definitely needs to […]

My Son The Smarty Pants…

My son is three, THREE, and he outsmarted me. Bedtime routine solo as Himself is working away again. I’m practically on my knees at this stage getting their teeth brushed and up to bed. The youngest is fighting it as best he can and keeps asking for the never ending “one more minute” Finally manage to lure him into the bathroom for teeth brushing then he saunters off seemingly in a better mood. Then his little face lights up and he says “Mammy, stop! Listen! Do you hear that?” “No what is it?” I say with a smile, looking forward to whatever cuteness he’s about to come out with. “That’s […]

Always The Bad Guy…

As usual I chauffeured the boys to school and back, to after school activity and back, did homework,  served them their dinner, warmed their pj’s on the heater, played lego building for an hour, tucked them into bed,  went up a further two times at requests for second and third hugs and kisses. They were still chatting and I gently called up “Boys that’s enough now, time for sleep” For the next half an hour I listened to them whisper about me: “Mammy’s so mean to say that” “Yeh she’s getting coal for Christmas isn’t she” “Yeh and she’ll have to eat it for her dinner” “Yeh and we’ll pour […]

Today Won Me…

What an absolute shit Monday. Pure shite. One of those Mondays it just feels you did absolutely nothing right. I was drenched doing the school run this morning because like an eejit I sauntered out in a light jacket with no hood… in Ireland…in November. Hello common sense?? The Youngest was like a bag of rats after pre-school.  Jesus I couldn’t do anything right for him. Even the way I presented him with his yogurt was apparently wrong! The Pièce de résistance was the the Eldest telling me the teacher wanted a word. Heart sunk. It’s like being back in school yourself all over again and being sent to the […]

Cheeky Kids!

I don’t know when my kids stopped being so angelic… or if they ever were. The eldest has definitely taken on the roll of ‘Cheeky little sod’ since turning 5. And the youngest tends to copy his big brother.. This morning they were in trouble for one reason or another, and I threatened Santa’s naughty list. “Santa’s watching you know, you’ll end up on the naughty list and you’ll get coal for Christmas!” The eldest has an answer for everything at the moment. He called my bluff. “That’s ok Mammy, I don’t mind if he gives me coal, I just won’t play with it.” The youngest got on board […]

Halloween

Halloween is a lot different to when I was a kid. (I feel old even using that expression) I remember Halloween as just a one day event – actual Halloween day – and my costumes were usually along the lines of a black sack as a cape, coal on my face and a cardboard witches hat. There was one year that I made a ghostbusters costume from cereal boxes and tinfoil which was pretty cool!. I wish I had a picture … although it’s probably likely that it was actually shit and I just can’t remember! My trick or treat bag (a normal plastic bag) was usually full of monkey […]

Hectic Wednesday…

Wednesday is always a bit hectic in our house. It’s fine ’til 12.30 when it’s time to collect the youngest from pre-school, then it just becomes exhausting and chaotic.  The eldest has after school activities on a wednesday, so between 12.30 and 4.15 I am in and out of the car a total of 8 times!! Collect the youngest, home. Collect the eldest, home. Bring the eldest to theatre, home. Collect the eldest from theatre, home. It’s normal by the last collection on a wednesday for me to start loathing the site of the car..!  Today two things happened to add a sprinkling of extra stress to the day.. you […]

The Second Blog…..

This weekend me and the kids took the train to the country to visit family. Normally we drive but decided the kids would enjoy a bit of public transport for once! I reserved seats for the kids and was stuck in a fairly embarrassing situation when a couple where sitting in them. It was very awkward but they were apologetic and moved for us. I was full of “sorry, sorry about that, sorry again, thanks.” As it turns out I was looking at the wrong seat numbers on the tickets and turfed the poor couple out of their own seats. Felt really bad but sure what’s done is done.. Kids […]
