When Your Kid Doesn’t Sleep But You’re A Sucker…
My Eldest has never been the best sleeper, for as long as I can remember. He stopped napping just before he turned 2, around the time his brother was born. Fun times.
He wakes on average at about 6.30am every morning. On a really great day we’ll get 7am. Then he goes through phases of waking at the most ungodly hour that brings tears to your eyes.
Let’s just take a moment to gently wipe the tear that rolls down your cheek when your child wakes up in the middle of the night.
The Hubby was away last night, and when the Eldest went to the loo at 5.30am and passed my door we made eye contact.
I took a moment to weigh up the two scenarios. Tell him to come in beside me and effectively annoy me for an hour, or send him back to bed and have him “accidentally” (pff, yeh right) wake up his brother.
I told him to come in beside me and to go back asleep. He whispered “Mammy” a hundred times while I played dead. He asked for my phone. He sighed loudly. I eventually got up and said we may as well go down and get a cup of tea.
I was tired and cranky and nagged at him about the importance of sleep and rest. He took it all in I’m sure………..
He went down ahead of me while I got washed. When I walked in to the kitchen he had laid out all the dishes, spoons, cereal and milk on the table for breakfast.
All crankiness dispersed. “Mammy the sucker” mode commenced. I hugged him and kissed him and told him how sweet he was and then we sat at the table and had a cup of tea together before the day started.
I’m f*cking exhausted but there’s worse ways to start the day 🙂
